Today I am super, super excited as it is my blog’s first birthday! It seems crazy to look back and think it’s only a year since I was on my laptop, flicking around other people’s blogs and feeling way out of my depth. After all the days and nights sat around wondering ‘what if’, taking the plunge and actually going for it was one of the most exciting, nerve-racking and amazing moments of my life.
The thought of putting yourself out there and starting up an ambitious project can be incredibly daunting; I know it certainly was for me, but it’s these experiences that make us stronger and help us grow. My main worry was my blog failing; I couldn’t stop thinking about how embarrassing it would be. It’s so important to remember, though, that everyone is a beginner to start with. Everybody starts with no followers, and no readers, and everyone feels like a loser at least sometimes. Pushing through those feelings and ‘faking it till you make it’ is 100% the best way forward. I can honestly think of nothing more rewarding than starting up and working on something you can call your own. Yes, it can be frustrating and things sometimes (or often) go wrong, but when you’re invested in something, you will have the motivation to push through and just deal with it. This blog has given me countless sleepless nights and stressed-out days, usually down to some technical issue that I don’t have a clue how to fix, but with each hurdle I become more accomplished as a blogger. Problems are part of the journey to success, and if you tackle them head on, always keeping in mind why you started, you will get through.
To celebrate the first birthday of evolvewithelise.com, my blog has received a bit of a glo-up courtesy of the wonderful Pipdig, who have been an absolute lifeline for me right since the very beginning! If anyone is looking into starting a blog, I can’t recommend their beautiful, user friendly themes enough; I’ve been using them since day one. The whole of yesterday was spent familiarising myself with WordPress and my new theme, and I’m hoping I’ve managed to tweak anything needed to ensure my new site works a dream. If, however, you come across anything that isn’t working properly, please let me know and I can focus on getting anything fixed straight away!
So with a year of experience, if anyone out there has been toying with the idea of setting up a blog (or any other project), my number one piece of advice is the old cliché, ‘just go for it’! There will always be someone ‘better’ out there, there will always be someone with more followers or who’s blog is growing faster, but by diving in head first and deciding to just do you and do your best is the absolute best decision you can make.
Last but not least, I want to thank every single person who takes the time to read my blog; it honestly means the world. It still seems crazy to me when people come up to me and say they’ve read something I’ve written, it’s the most rewarding feeling and really makes everything so worthwhile. Here’s to another year of blogging and self-improvement – I have some big ambitions for 2018 and really look forward to seeing what the future holds.
