Social Media Spring Cleaning for Your Mind

Flatlay of desk with laptop, fruit, diary and tea.

Ever find yourself having a ‘quick scroll through Instagram’ and suddenly find it’s been 2 hours, you’re 17 ‘fitspo’ profiles deep and your self-esteem is on the floor?

Don’t worry, I’ve been there too. We’re only human. It’s easy to get caught up comparing ourselves to other people who appear to have the ‘perfect’ life/body/job etc.

This is why I think it’s important to keep a good check of who we’re choosing to follow on social media.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to go for a quick gander in your spare time and leave the ‘gram feeling inspired, uplifted and positive about yourself?

Of course it would. And, actually, it is totally possible.

So I challenge you to this: at the start of every month, go through your social media following lists (on whatever platforms you use) and unfollow anyone who makes you feel insecure or bad about yourself.

And for God’s sake, make sure that people promoting ‘flat tummy teas’ are the first to go.

Go through each person and ask yourself:

  1. Do I know this person? If yes, are you interested in seeing their posts?
  2. Does this person make me feel good/inspire me? If not, consider pressing that unfollow button.

When you’ve done the unfollowing, you can get started on the fun part! Your feed might seem a bit empty now, but I’ve got you! Here are the people I follow on Instagram who help me to feel good about myself every day. Follow any of these beauties and bless your timeline with a daily ray of sunshine:

IT’S OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY! * * In a society that has Influenced “ show no emotion and you won’t get hurt” or “ crying is weak” let’s change this right now. Everyone gets through battles that others don’t see, particularly on a platform where people only really show the highlights. People struggle and battle through demons and yet we are taught that we should bottle up and not seek help in order for us to appear like we have it all together. Don’t let society make you feel like you can’t reach out for help. Be kind always and remember that we don’t know what people have gone through / still battling so let’s stop the stigma of feeling ashamed of talking about mental health and let’s be an advocate and friend to those who reach out. We never know who’s life we can impact so let’s make our effect a positive one. * * #thickfitchick #bootyexercises #bodymotivation #gymmotivation #girlgains #glutes #gluteday #bootygains🍑 #bootyqueen #bootypoppin #musclenation #musclegains #gymlife #gymshark #gymsharkwomen #gymfit #thicklife #thickashell #curvy #curvygirl #thickfit #thickandfit #glutesfordays #legday #bulk #bulkingseason #leanbulk #bootymotivation #bodypositive @gymshark @gymsharkwomen @gymsharktrain @doyoueven @doyouevenwomen @alphaclothing @alphalete @goldstandardnutrition @optimumnutrition @bulkpowders_uk @benfrancis @calumwatson1 @itsbulkingseason @myproteinuk @myproteinus @xtend @proteinworld @musclenation @vqfit @vqfitwomen @gymgarmz

I'm a teenage girl who has never weighed more the 130 pounds and I have visible stretch marks everywhere my body. Right now I only weigh around 110 pounds and no, I've never been pregnant or went through a rapid weight change. My lines formed from puberty. Shoulders, boobs, hips, butt, thighs, knees, back, arms, everywhere. I wear nothing that exposes too much of my skin in public because they're all in can think about at all times. I want to change that though because I love fashion a lot and the idea of wearing cute tops in the summer but these stop me from doing so. There are so many of them that I'm to the point where I'm practically done trying to get rid of them. I've tried everything I could get my hands on. I've learning to love myself for the way I am. I've never seen anyone like me before and I think it's beautiful. Even when my self esteem is at an all time low I always remember that I have value and am worthy of respect and love just like everyone else. Having these lines has taught me to find the beauty in all things and I wouldn't be who I am today without them. I'm tired of crying myself to sleep. I'm tired of living in fear because of what other people will think of me. I just want to be happy and experience life freely. I've learned that it's not my job to get people to like me and my body is beautiful because it's unique and it's mine. One of my goals is that one day I can be a model and represent girls everywhere whose stretchmarks don't fit and aesthetic. We deserve representation too
